Replenish Tropical Paradise Writing Retreat

Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico

February 17th to 21st, 2027 (Wednesday evening-Sun morning)

Imagine being immersed in your writing while surrounded by Mexico's Pacific Ocean beauty. Join writers and creativity coaches Jane Thatcher and Joy Sawyer for an inspiring retreat in vibrant Sayulita, one of Mexico's most beloved bohemian beach towns. Known for its stunning beaches, world-class surfing, colorful streets, incredible cuisine, and laid-back artistic spirit, Sayulita is the perfect place to step away from everyday life and reconnect with your creativity.

Between personalized coaching sessions and engaging writing workshops, spend your days wandering cobblestone streets, horseback riding through the jungle, whale watching, swimming in the ocean, or simply reading beneath the shade of a palm tree. Supported by a welcoming community of fellow creatives, you'll make meaningful progress on your writing, overcome creative roadblocks, and return home feeling inspired, restored, and deeply connected to your creative voice.

  • Personalized writing workshops tailored to your unique goals,  group, whether beginning a project, overcoming blocks, or deepening your artistic practice.

  • One-on-one writing and creativity coaching with Joy and Jane.

  • Personalized Enneagram-based writing plan designed to help you capitalize on strengths and understand the patterns that shape your process.

  • Supportive writing community that can help nurture your goals and offer wisdom and encouragement.

  • Margarita happy hour meet-and-greet to gather over delicious drinks and nibbles to relax into "retreat mode"-- and get to know your creative tribe.

  • Catered dinner featuring authentic, local Mexican cuisine

  • Dinner in Sayulita: spend an evening together dining out in charming Sayulita savoring fresh seafood, tacos, and local flavors.

  • Support with travel and activities: Jane travels to Nayarit every year and can help you navigate, book flights, transportation, lodging, activities, excursions, and more

  • Create at your own pace:  balance focused writing time with rest, play, and the restorative rhythms of the Pacific Coast.

  • Afternoon free time to write, explore, surf, swim, read a book on the beach, go whale watching,  horseback riding, hike. The options are endless!

  • Live music and poetry reading:  Joy will give a special poetry reading, and Jane will be joined with world-class musician (and husband) Daren Hahn for a night of original music -- one that usually ends in a lively singalong!

  • Open mike: optional opportunity to share your creative work with other writers.

  • Leave refreshed, inspired, and deeply connected -- not only to your  writing, but to yourself and a community of fellow creatives.

FAQ

Is it safe to travel to Sayulita?

While we urge all participants to exercise caution when traveling internationally, we have found Mexico to be safe and welcoming!

Can you help me book my travel to and from the retreat?

Yes! Jane spends a significant amount of time in the region and can help you book airfare, transportation to Sayulita from the airport, transportation (if wanted) within Sayulita and surrounding areas, and your lodging. Email her at: jane@janethatcher.com for more information!

Do I need a car in Sayulita?

No! Sayulita is extremely walkable. The workshops will be held at the north end of town, which is a fifteen-minute walk from the square/downtown. We suggest you secure lodging on the north side of town if you'd prefer to walk less. Many visitors rent a golf cart when in town, and it's a great way to get around. Jane can help you with golf cart rentals if you're interested.

Is the water safe to drink?

The water is not safe to drink in Sayulita. However, it's very easy to get bottles and jugs of water -- and most rentals provide drinkable water. It is safe to shower in the water and to use it for general hygiene.

Do I need to speak Spanish to navigate Sayulita?

While locals appreciate the effort, it is very easy to navigate Sayulita and the Nayarit region while speaking only English.

What can I eat while in Sayulita?

Sayulita is home to some of the best restaurants, taco stands, and family-run food joints in the area! Additionally, there are plenty of markets to grab food for cooking at home.
